#Covid19India: Five Oxygen Fundraisers Where You Can Donate

India is gasping for oxygen.

Every morning I wake up to tweets looking for oxygen cylinders and hospital beds. Sometimes these tweets come with a timer — “only 45 mins of oxygen left in XYZ hospital,” it says. I retweet, like, and quote tweets furiously in the hope that help will come. Sometimes it does, sometimes there is a leak in the oxygen tank and dozens of people die.

We are undergoing a harsh covid second wave and falling oxygen saturation level is a critical symptom of Covid-19. Such patients need supplemental oxygen supply to survive the virus but we do not have the health infrastructure to fulfill this demand surge. And so, people are dying in ambulances and homes waiting for emergency oxygen supply.

If you have the means, please donate to these fundraisers. These are community-led initiatives that are trying to plug the oxygen shortage in the country.

1. ‘Mission Oxygen’ by Democracy People Foundation

After meeting its initial goal, the fundraiser is now looking at shipping 265 more oxygen concentrators by Friday next week. This will take the total tally of oxygen concentrators delivered by the organization to 865.

They have already procured 10,000 concentrators for immediate help. Through this fundraiser, they hope to raise INR 1.5 Crores to procure more concentrators.

5. The Sirri Saqti Foundation, West Bengal

The organization is providing free oxymeter (for 7 days) and free oxygen cylinder (up to 2 days) to covid patients. In the first 10 days, over 30 families are said to have benefited from this initiative. The raised funds will be used to expand the mission across Kolkata and increase the number of dedicated staff at the centers.

As they say, each contribution counts. In crowdfunding, it is not as much about the donation amount as it is about the number of contributors. As more people contribute, the campaign’s reach grows and more money is raised. So donate if you can and if not, do not forget to share the campaign links. Stay safe and mask up!
